As we all know Architectural Digest US has unveiled 2017 AD 100 list, which features the best interior designers of the year. Seen as trendsetters and many of them already awarded, the art of decorating never looked better in the hands of these homegrown talents. And today the highlight goes to Aero Studios, based in New York!
Continuing with our interior design styles round-up focus on 2017 AD100 List, the interior and home furnishings designer Thomas O’Brien is included in the American Beauties. He is the founder and President of Aero Studios, one of America’s leading design firms, and the proprietor of Aero Ltd., the iconic home boutique that is the retail face of the studio, also in New York.
Style: With his old-things-made-new ethos, Thomas O’Brien has garnered a fleet of followers.
Projects: A turn-of-the-century home in the Hudson Valley, a design shop on Long Island.
Current Obsession: A book about French bistro floor tiles from the 1880s.
What’s New: O’Brien’s SoHo shop recently moved to the New York Design Center.
Clients: Movers and shakers in fashion, film, publishing, and theater.
Branding: Furniture for Century, lighting for Visual Comfort, tabletop for Reed & Barton.
The studio covers three practices: architecture, interiors, and product design. In architecture and interiors, O’Brien’s work is well documented. Residential commissions range from reconfigured lofts to formal apartments; historic country houses and modernist beach homes to new architectural additions and buildings. Commercial work in Manhattan includes the downtown Soho hotel 60 Thompson.
Architectural Digest divided its list in different categories. In Architecture we have: The Avant-Garde, The Classicists and The Modernists. For the best Interior Design projects, the interiors authority divided the best interior designers into: The American Beauties, The Connoisseurs, The British Invasion, The French Connection, The New Traditionalists, The Daredevils, The Young Guns, The Hitmakers and Geniuses.
