Warm up for winter
Warmer whites lend themselves to winter decorating better than cooler tones. Think flax linen curtains or an ivory rug for a simple update.
Some like it hot
What is the ultimate design statement for a winter living space? The fireplace. The styles available in Australia are so exciting right now, an interior designer’s dream.
It’s certainly nothing new but faux furs introduce warmth. They’re a winter decorator’s go-to.
Plants add a fresh aesthetic all year round but in winter try an olive tree over the signature fiddle-leaf fig or strelitzia (aka bird of paradise).
In the boudoir
Winter is the season to bring out your warmer bed linen. Cotton flannel or full flannelette provide the perfect base for a great night’s sleep throughout the cooler evenings.
Daylight hours are shorter in winter so good lighting is important. Complement ceiling lights with table or floor lamps and opt for warm globes over cooler options.
The living room gets as much use as a bedroom or kitchen so it’s important to get the sofa right. In the cooler months, linen or velvet upholstery as opposed to leather is softer and warmer.
Come dine with me
When it’s cold outside, bring the party inside. Winter entertaining is decadent and cosy by candlelight, so create the ideal space with a beautifully crafted dining table and chairs. If space permits, opt for a dining table that can fit at least eight and consider the positioning of legs with chairs.
