Mansion Casa Malca in Tulum, México belonged to the world-famous Columbian drug king of the 80s and has now become a luxury 5’stars hotel.
Pablo Escobar’s house was abandoned for 10 years after his death, but in 2003, it was opened again.
Design Hotels made a redesign of the Mansion. Afterward, famous New York art collector and dealer Lio Malca bought it with the surrounding area in 2012. He came up with the brilliant idea to turn Escobar’s residence into a designer boutique hotel Casa Malca.
The luxury mansion is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula. Recently it became a trendy getaway destination.
The hotel opened its doors for guests in 2015 with nine bedrooms.
Lio Malca’s initiative is to make the number of suits constantly grow each year. Today it reached 42 bedrooms including single suits in the small two stored houses on the beach. The new large swimming pool, bar and restaurant complement the hotel complex. As a nice bonus, there is the hidden underground steam room under the pool.
The terrace in front of the entrance is covered with Persian carpets. On the ground floor, there is a bar and a lobby, and on the second floor, there are bedrooms.
The interiors are decorated with tree bark and rough wood timbers.
Bright and colorful textiles are used throughout the hotel as accents.
Lio Malca filled spaces of the hotel with the splendid works of famous contemporary artists. The exposition is constantly changing and updating with the new art pieces.
White walls and concrete floors are perfect as a background for their masterpieces.
Visitors enjoy not only a picturesque beauty of the white sand seashore but also numerous artworks from the private owner’s collection.
Many people want to experience a relaxing holiday on the Caribbean coast while also observing an excellent selection of contemporary art. Therefore, Casa Malca is becoming increasingly popular.
