Known for his exuberant style, the event designer and decorator Ken Fulk conceived the opulent lounges for the 2017 edition of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), at Skylight Clarkson Square. Commissioned by IMG, Fulk certainly evoked his eclectic style to the major fashion event.
Now based in San Francisco, the designer was responsible to turn the lounge a stylish yet comfortable area, providing chic rooms where editors and other industry insiders could rest. His over-the-top opulence certainly make it worthy for guests who felt very glamorous.
A true heaven for fashion devotees, the three rooms reflect the experiential designer’s signature extravagance. The lounges were in lacquered-wood walls in eye-popping colors like green emerald and deep red. The sitting areas featured sumptuous luxe leather sofas, club chairs accented by gilded side tables. “We envisioned a Pop-inspired color scheme that would reference the Andy Warhol in the space”, said the designer.
Renowned for his layered interiors and over-the-top parties, Fulk explains “Everything is very decadently layered, which I think shines a mirror on what we often think of as ‘fancy’ or ‘fame'”. “I wanted it to feel splashy and over-the-top.” The accessories, of course, were in sumptuous materials and striking details.
Cool hand-painted zebras embellish the VIP lounge’s bar, called “Fancy as Fulk.” Along, on the hallway wall, an original Warhol illustration displays the late artist’s popular prophecy: “In the future, everyone will be world famous for fifteen minutes.” A social statement for sure in this Instagram era.
Creative Director of Ken Fulk Inc, the designer has become a curator of lifestyles, designing luxury homes, fancy restaurants and boutique hotels, but also choreographing opulent weddings, glamorous parties and even family getaways.
